Asthma Remedies
As Asthma falls within the category of auto-immune disorders, we recommend that you read the article Factors Involved In Auto-Immune Disorders And Effective, Natural Treatment Protocols.
There are however some specific natural remedies for Asthma that can speed the healing process. Please Contact Us if you have questions regarding nutritional support for Asthma.
Possibly the most effective herbal treatment for Asthma and Bronchitis is our Asthma & Bronchitis Formula, it was invented by Medical herbalist Gerald Green. He claims that the will cure or greatly relieve 100% of all Bronchitic cases, 100% of asthma in babies, toddlers and older children and 80% of adults. He feels that the 20% failure in adults is due to systemic Candida induced by the drugs that these patients were taking and a failure to instigate an anti-Candida diet.
He invented the formula while he was wheel chair bound with life threatening asthma, that was so severe it destroyed 70% of his useable lung function (emphysema) Even in this condition, within four days of use of the formula, he felt the ‘iron grip’ on his lungs ease, although it took about a year to completely relieve his asthma. In most individuals the relief is much quicker, typically a few days or weeks for young adults and a few days for children. Obviously the older you are and the longer and more severe has been the condition, the longer it will take the herbal formulae to achieve its optimum benefits.
The Asthma & Bronchitis Formula consists of Liquorice concentrate, Slippery Elm powder and a small amount of Lobelia herb. The Liquorice induces the adrenal cortex to make more natural cortisone, thus having a systemic anti-inflammatory effect on the lungs and most other organs. Natural cortisone is a type of steroid, yet tragically the artificial steroids released by the drug companies is not sufficiently like the natural steroids released by the adrenal glands and can never cure asthma, it’s action to relieve asthma is only temporary but the side effects a cumulative. Slippery elm thins down the thick sticky mucus (as does Serrapeptase which has other anti-inflammatory effects) that clogs the airways. Finally to get rid of the mucus, and to have some de-sensitisation effect on allergies, a small amount of Lobelia herb is used.
It has been found that Organic Silicon is effective in treating 85% of asthma cases however, Organic Silicon G5 is not a specific treatment for asthma. It is through its calming and stabilizing effect on the immune system (it may help all auto-immune disorders to some extent), its detoxifying effect on the lymphatic system and its beneficial effect on the adrenal glands and the liver that could explain is usefulness in the example condition discussed, i.e. asthma.
The Role of Salt and Water and Asthma
The quotes below are from Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, author of "Your Body's Many Cries for Water".
Asthmatics are particularly cautioned about the detrimental effects of a low salt diet. In my opinion, asthma occurs by and large as the compounding effect of low salt intake on top of an establishing dehydration in the body.
When you understand the physiology of the human body and the role of histamine in its water regulation and drought management, you realize that chronic dehydration, in a vast majority of people, is the primary cause of allergies and asthma. Increased water intake on a forced, regular basis should be adopted as a preventative measure as well as the treatment of choice.
In those who have had attacks of asthma or allergic reactions to different pollens or foods, more strict attention to daily water intake should become a pre-emptive measure. These people will also have other indicators of dehydration that they need to recognize and treat accordingly before a crisis attack of asthma endangers their lives and exposes them to possible premature death.
Any time an asthmatic experiences difficulty in breathing, the dry cough signals imminent danger, he or she should quickly take two or three glasses of water, one after another, and then put a pinch of salt on the tongue. Salt shortage in the diet can be a contributing factor in asthma attacks. Developing a feeling of nausea when you drink water is a sign of SALT SHORTAGE in the body.
Please bear in mind that asthma is not a ‘disease’; it is a drastic complication of water shortage in the body. Any time an asthmatic does not drink enough water or take enough salt, his or her predisposition to asthma attacks will come back. When there is a shortage of salt in the diet and there is increased water intake, the body becomes truly salt deficient. Increased urine production washes away the mineral reserves of the body, with salt at the top of the list. Salt especially UNREFINED SALT from THE OCEAN, contains many vital elements that balance the mineral content of the blood, including the element sodium.
Celtic Sea Salt is the only salt that contains a fair proportion of the trace elements from the ocean, along with the sodium chloride. It is processed without heat and has a tremendous history of health enhancement. See also the book "Sea Salt's Hidden Powers" by Dr. Jaques de Langre.
Ionic Liquid Minerals and Trace Elements contains four times the proportion of magnesium (essential for asthmatics) and trace elements relative to the sodium chloride than even Celtic Salt. Our bodies contain typically 22 pints of extra-cellular fluid, the mineral content of which is very similar to sea water. This is probably because we carry our own ‘internal sea’ with us since life on this planet evolved from single celled organisms. Since these cells have joined together in co-operative groups to form complex multi-cellular organisms and made the transition to land, they have maintained a sea like liquid to bathe all the cells of the body.
The daily consumption of sea water is the most natural and beneficial salt we can consume. At the other extreme, refined table salt that supplies only (plus additives) heated sodium chloride is toxic to the body. The unfortunate paradox is that (due to the ignorance of the salt manufacturers and the health authorities) our bodies desperately cry out for full spectrum natural salt, yet are only supplied with toxic refined salt. ‘Health’ campaigns to eliminate refined salt from our diet have left the bulk of the population deficient in the proper wholesome natural salts that are essential for maintaining good health, including health of the developing fetus.
Dr. F. Batmanghelidj recommends about 3 grams of natural salt a day. This can be either obtained from about one level domestic teaspoon (not the bigger 5 ml medicinal teaspoon) or from ten mls (one dessert spoon) of Ionic Liquid minerals and trace-elements
A direct coloration between the amount of MSM in the blood and resistance to allergens has been established. Although MSM alone may not totally eliminate allergic responses, subjects with chronic to severe cases of allergies to environmental materials report substantial to complete relief of their symptoms after successive daily doses of MSM. The majority of subjects with allergic asthma report equivalent or better control of symptoms with one fourth or less of the amount of anti allergy medicine they had been taking when concurrently ingesting MSM. The suggested dose of MSM is one teaspoon a day dissolved in liquid for three weeks then reducing to half this amount.
Serrapeptase is an enzyme that was first discovered in silkworms, used to digest the tough chrysalis coat so they can escape into the world after they have transformed into a butterfly. It is now produced in tanks by bacteria. It has been used clinically around the world as a completely safe way to clear dead protein material from within the body and it’s most common use is to help clear the arteries helping circulation and as an anti-inflammatory agent. It also has the effect of thinning sticky mucus in the lungs, reducing pulmonary inflammation, and hence helping the elimination of mucus from the lungs.
Ultra Fine Green Clay is often effective in either reducing the symptoms of asthma or eliminating them entirely. Naturopath and herbalist Marijke Vogel suffered from seasonal asthma, after five days of taking clay in water her asthmatic symptoms disappeared. The founder of Regenerative Nutrition was saved from a long bout of severe asthma by Gerald Greens Herbal Treatment but still had some occasional coughing and mucus. After 2 days taking clay in water, not only was there much less coughing and mucus, energy and stamina returned to almost normal after the weakening effects of 8 weeks of asthma. Clay has a good detox effect without hyping the immune system and is therefore suitable for sensitive persons and those with a tendency to allergies and overactive immune system. Please see the article The Healing Benefits of Clay.
Regular Tea drinking (and possibly coffee) may make it nigh impossible to keep properly hydrated. With normal individuals tea is a diuretic, i.e. it causes the body to expel more water than normal via the urine. Many asthmatics tend to have low kidney energy and tend to loose water and salt more easily via the urine, so tea drinking can be a major cause of even greater dehydration. The minimum recommended amount of water daily (exclude other sources of fluid from the calculations) to avoid chronic dehydration is about two pints. Personally I have one pint with a dessert spoon of Inland sea water added, and one pint of pure water daily.
One of the signs of dehydration is the colour of the urine. Fill a glass with your urine and observe the colour. Generally it should be a light/pale straw colour. Any deeper shades of yellow indicate dehydration. Unfortunately when we become chronically dehydrated, this is not picked up by the thirst mechanism. Watch out for even a slightly dry throat, this is one of the signs. Alcohol will dehydrate the body especially spirits. Asthmatics should avoid alcohol as much as possible, allowing themselves only a small amount of real ale or Guinness or one small glass of wine daily.
Most asthmatics, whether they know it or not, are intolerant to cow’s milk and all cow’s milk products, this includes un-pasteurised products. Switching to goats or sheep’s milk and it’s products is strongly recommended.
