Thyroid Hyperactive

Natural Remedies for Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism (Underactive and Overactive Thyroid)
Thyroid problems are common, particularly in women. An underactive or overactive thyroid can impact upon health significantly as the thyroid is the master gland of the metabolism. Symptoms of an underactive thyroid can include weight gain, constipation, dry skin, brittle nails, hair loss and cold intolerance. Sudden unexplained weight gain and tiredness with these other symptoms are signs that may well indicate Hypothyroidism. Low basal metabolic rate is diagnostic of low thyroid even though it may often not be picked up by blood assays for thyroid hormones. Hyperactive thyroid symptoms include restlessness, rapid pulse and respiration and higher than normal temperatures, high Basal metabolic activity is diagnostic of hyper thyroid.
Basal Body Temperature and Thyroid Problems
As long ago as 1942, Broda Barnes, M.D., author of Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness, looked at the Basal Body temperature as a successful indication of a thyroid problems. In normal, menstruating women, on day 1 of the cycle on the first day of menstruation, the temperature will be at a lower level, during ovulation the temperature rises and remains at this higher level until dropping just before the next period. This normal cycle will be affected by an underactive, or overactive thyroid and can be used as an effective alternative to blood tests.
Take your Basal (at rest) body temperature upon waking, at exactly the same time every day and record the reading; please note that temperature may be disturbed by several factors such as taking readings at different times, alcohol, illness, a restless night, stress etc. If the readings have a base rate in a menstruating woman of 36.2 or less, or a constant reading below this in other women, men and children, an underactive thyroid is very likely. An overactive Thyroid (Hyperthyroidism) would be likely in cases where the temperature is consistently above 37. In some cases where the thyroid is functioning very poorly; ovulation will not occur at all and women of child bearing age may not see a rise in their Basal temperature.
It is no surprise then that thyroid problems are often linked to issues with fertility; in cases of an underactive thyroid gland, increased levels of the hormones TRH (thyroid-releasing hormone) and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) will be released prompting the pituitary to release TSH, which in turn stimulates the thyroid to do its job. However, TRH also prompts the pituitary to release more of the hormone prolactin - this can interfere with ovulation by suppressing release of the hormones LH and FSH, which stimulate the ovary. Low levels of thyroid hormone can also interfere with the rate at which your body metabolizes sex hormones, which can cause ovulatory disorders. Excess thyroid hormone can block the effect of estrogen at various points in the body; this can make the endometrium (uterine lining) unstable and cause abnormal uterine bleeding.
We have included some information in the following paragraphs concerning misinformation about the safety and suitability of Iodine in the treatment of health disorders and specifically Thyroid disorders as many of you would have been told or read this misinformation, and like me, believed it. This misinformation and the proof that it is misinformation is discussed more fully in in the article
Iodine Why We Need It
There has been the most disastrous misinformation about the effect of Iodine on the thyroid gland both for overactive and underactive Thyroid. This can be traced back to the faulty, fraudulent junk science report by Wolff and Chaikoff in 1948 that stated that small amounts of Iodine e.g. over about 200 microgram's daily could be toxic, and since then this faulty information has been seized upon by medical journals and subsequently absorbed by medical authorities and even nutritionists. This misinformation has possibly had one of the single most damaging effects on the health of the world-wide population. Iodine is safe and non-toxic over a tremendous dosage range much more so than the other trace minerals such as zinc and especially selenium. Iodine is a precious safe tool that helps the body overcome many health problems including both over and underactive thyroid.
60 million mainland Japanese consume a daily average of 13.8 mg of elemental iodine and they are one of the healthiest nations, based on overall wellbeing and cancer statistics
(4). Japanese women do not stop consuming iodine-rich foods during pregnancy, and Japanese fetuses are exposed to maternal peripheral levels of iodide at concentrations of 10-5M to 10-6M
(1-4). Either the Japanese are mutants, capable of surviving on toxic levels of iodine or we have been grossly deceived, and the human body needs at least 100 times the RDA, which was established very recently in 1980 and confirmed in 1989!!

There are two main approaches to normalising thyroid activity and thyroid health, and integral to that is overall metabolic energy.
The first one is to take a good dose of high quality high Iodine seaweed especially raw enzyme intact Sea Greens.
Sea Greens restores and sustain complete nutritional balance. Many nutrients may be missing from food and soil, but SeagreensÓ give you all the nutrients from the ocean - nature's most complete nutrient 'store'. "Seaweed is the most nutritious form of vegetation on this planet...it contains almost the whole alphabet of nutrients". Leslie Kenton. Alkaline SeagreensÓ improve the full digestion and metabolism of nutrients from other foods, purify the blood and body cells and feed the thyroid and hormone system, all regulating weight.
Iodine is a trace element that is vital to the health of the thyroid gland. It also provides the building blocks for the hormones secreted by the thyroid.
Just a few of the other nutrients in Seagreens which have a direct impact on the function of the thyroid include L-Aspartic Acid which works with L-Tyrosine, synergistic vitamins, minerals and co-enzymes to supply nutritional support for the health of the thyroid gland. B Vitamins which promote the general health of the thyroid.
The second approach is to use appropriate levels of Iodine
This is a cost effective method using possibly one of the first nutritional supplements -it is over 100 years old and has a long history of successful use; Lugols solution drops are added to water or juice. This enables us to provide higher levels of Iodine than can be obtained by a handful of Sea Greens capsules. Much detailed clinical work, some of which is described in the article
Iodine Why We Need It has established the benefits of these higher doses, and these include the fact it takes months to restore whole body needs of Iodine for optimum benefits.
Not only does the thyroid require Iodine but also the breast, ovaries, testes and in fact every cell in the body. Iodine deficiency is almost universal if one takes the amount required for optimum health as consumed by the Japanese, who have the lowest incidence of thyroid disorders and other diseases of the industrialised world (along with the Icelanders who also consume a similar amount of Iodine daily i.e. around 12 milligrams, about 60 times the so called safe RDA.)
The other issue is that toxic halides such as chlorine in drinking water and bromine added to bread displace and block what little Iodine we have in our body. These toxic elements are flushed out by the regular use of Iodine, gradually moving the thyroid and body towards balance. A third reason for higher Iodine doses (It is normally expedient to gradually build up the dose, excess Iodine, once the body has soaked up its full needs, is simply flushed from the body and does not form a toxic accumulation) is that Iodine kills pathogenic microbes but does not harm beneficial bacteria. This gives it a tremendous role in health disorders across the board as most chronic health conditions have as a supporting component chronic infections. Example if you have thyroid imbalance then you most likely have Candida infection. Iodine at suitable a dose for the suitable time will help deal with both conditions.
Other nutrients Required to Normalise Thyroid health.
These include
Selenium and B vitamins. We suggest the use of food state B vitamins contained in
Zell Immunocomplex . Immunocomplex also provides respiratory enzymes that restore energy production to the cells, completing the normalisation of the energy cycle engendered by a recovered thyroid. This also applies to overactive thyroid.
Full details of the use of Iodine, Selenium , B vitamins and Celtic salt is discussed in the in the article
Iodine Why We Need It Discussion of underactive and overactive thyroid conditions are also discussed.
This is a root that grows high in the Andes and has a long history of use as a vitaliser and adaptogen. It can be used as part of a Thyroid therapy program as it has a positive impact on the endocrine system overall. More specifically it can help Pituitary function and this can have a knock on effect for the thyroid.
Maca root contains natural substances that stimulate the pituitary and hypothalamus. These master glands of the body in turn trigger the ovaries, adrenals, testes, thyroid, and pancreas to return to healthy functioning, thus producing normal amounts of hormones. This has been repeatedly demonstrated, at least with estrogen and progesterone, through the use of saliva hormone assays. A number of people taking thyroid medication have also found that they can cut down or stop taking thyroid hormone.
Removal of Blocks to Health, Healing and Wellness
We have defined the major blocks to health improvement which should be considered the number one priority for resolution before one goes on to a more specific healing regimen such as that detailed in the programme above. By removing these blocks one will feel stronger and more prepared for a specific programme and will achieve far greater success with it. Please read this essential article here
The Core Regime
Not all of the remedies listed here will neccessarily be needed. We strive to bring you the most effective remedies to resolve your health problems in the simplest supplemental regime possible. We aim to treat the actual root causes of health problems holistically rather than supply remedies that will give temporary or partial relief from only the symptoms. This has been our mission since the founding of Regenerative Nutrition in 1994. As we uncover more fundamental truths about the causes, and therefore the relief, of diseases and health problems we update and revise our product range and recommendations.
Above, we detail targeted remedy recommendations for Thyroid Hyperactive, but we further suggest that you view the core regime article and supplement pages by clicking here
To achieve overall good health and long term resolution of this health problem the remedies selected here should be combined with core regime remedies for the best results.
