Interstitial Cystitis

Interstitial Cystitis is a chronic inflammatory condition of the bladder, far more severe and persistent than "Common” cystitis.

Frequency of urination may be up to 60 times a day in severe cases, in early or very mild cases, frequency is sometimes the only symptom. There is a sensation of having to urinate immediately, which may also be accompanied by pain. Generalised pain in the lower abdominal, urethral or vaginal area. Pain may also be associated with sexual intercourse. Men with Interstitial Cystitis may experience testicular, scrotal and/or perineal pain, and painful ejaculation.

Some patients also report muscle and joint pain, migraines, allergic reactions and gastrointestinal problems, it appears that Interstitial Cystitis has an association with certain other chronic diseases and pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome. Many patients, however, have only bladder symptoms.
